Buying New Home – When do we start paying the monthly payment ?

We’re buying a new home (brand new) from the builder – got the loan paperwork today and it stated that we have to start paying the monthly payment next month. We are paying the downpayment for the house but, The house won’t even be completed for another 6-8 months!
Is this right?
