My family got a new cat last Wednesday. He seems very scared of his new surroundings. He has a space set all to himself with his litterbox, bed, and food. Whenever we take him out to walk on his own, he runs into a corner or under a table and starts meowing. However, he is fine if he is in my lap. We also have a small dog, but our new cat doesn’t seem to mind her at all. What can I do to make him more comfortable with his new home?

However, since we live in California, a community property state, both of our names will be listed on the title of the new home (even though the loan is only in her name).
